goodbye deployment....hello hubby!

It is hard to believe that 7 months has already passed and we are less than 24 hours away from Matt's return home. Insanity I tell you. Really, where did the time go? And yet this still doesn't feel real. And I'm pretty sure it won't hit me until I am leaving for the airport tomorrow morning to go pick him up. In fact, just writing that has my tummy in knots. In a good way. I am excited and nervous and happy all at the same time. I still have no idea what I'm going to wear, but I have at least narrowed it down to 3 outfits, and I plan to have a little fashion show tonight to choose the winner. And I'm pretty sure it will be close to impossible to sleep tonight.

Tomorrow is going to be a crazy day filled with all sorts of emotions and I can't wait! I feel like tomorrow is the beginning of a new chapter of our lives. We made it through deployment....check...now on to the reunion and second honeymoon and spending unlimited amounts of time together! I know there will be an adjustment period but I am hoping the transition goes smoothly and its like we were never apart. And I plan to blog about it regardless (babe, that was your warning). haha. No matter what, it will make us a stronger couple with an even better relationship.

I want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all our family and friends. Because of your support and love, I have been able to get through this deployment without losing my mind. You have kept me occupied and invited me places and just listened when I needed to vent. And you have also been there for Matt, sending him packages and emails throughout the last 7 months. Those were huge morale boosters for him and they really made him feel special. I know we could not have done it without all of you by our side. We love you all!

p.s. pictures and video of the reunion will be posted later this week. A special thank you to Sara and Brandy who are going in late to work tomorrow so they can be there to capture this very special day! Who's excited?? ME!

Burgess Wedding Bonanza

Let me start off by saying Congratulations to Jess and Joe on getting married!! It was an amazing wedding and an unforgettable weekend. I am so sad it is all over. I am definitely going through withdrawals. I miss my bestie, I miss all the fabulous girls I spent the entire weekend with, and dang it I miss the party! But, life must go on.....so I will just have to re-live it in this wedding re-cap.

The festivities began on Friday. All of us girls got our nails done, had a yummy lunch, and then changed and headed over to the hotel for the rehearsal.
Jess practicing the walk down the aisle.

It was brief and productive and super hot. After figuring out where to stand and how to walk we headed to the reception room to help set up a bit. 200 chair covers and bows later....
Still missing the centerpieces, but on its way to being fabulous!

The rehearsal dinner was hosted by Joe's parents and took place right across the street from the venue. The food was yummy and the drinks were flowing. There were no Matt Clute incidents....but I got pretty intoxicated. However, not as bad as the best man who decided that he would try to egg the place after being cut off from the bar. Good job Sam. Luckily, nobody got arrested and nobody had a hangover (me included, altho it was close).

After we reached our 10pm curfew (thanks Jenni!) all the girls headed back to the Absher house for a little bridal slumber party. It was a great idea. I love girl time. We all woke up, had breakfast together and then started to get dressed. The house is very roomy so everyone had space to get ready or hang out. It was a relaxing and enjoyable morning. By 2pm we were finally ready and we took off for the venue! We checked into our rooms, put our dresses on, and were off to take pictures. It was a gorgeous day out....sunny and 80. We actually ended up walking around town and taking some pictures by a cool brick wall and one covered in Ivy. Jessica sole the show and got lots of 'congrats' along the way. A few little kids even called her a Princess. So precious. I can't wait to see the photos, they are going to be awesome!

At 6pm the wedding finally started and everything went perfectly. Jessica looked so beautiful, she was glowing. Joe was handsome as ever and teared up when he saw her. They wrote their own vows which I'm pretty sure made every single person cry. It was a wonderful ceremony, sealed with a long juicy kiss! :) Many more pictures later we made it in to the reception and started the party. From that point on I have no idea where the time went. There was food and drinks and dancing. They also had a really cool photo booth which everyone loved! We partied until midnight and then finally had to go back to our rooms. Here are a few pictures from the evening:

Can't go wrong with a photo booth! So much fun :)

What a weekend. I had such a great time and I feel so blessed to have been a part of it all. Thanks bestie for having me as your bridesmaid. I love you lots and I am so happy you and Joe found each other and finally got married! And Joe, my bestie-in-law....treat her right (and I know you will). You guys are so perfect for each other!

So, can we please meet up and do this again every year? Same place, same time? :)

the day has finally arrived.....

.....its the Burgess/Absher wedding weekend!!!! It is hard to believe that a year ago we were all huddled up in the bar at a local restaurant waiting for them to arrive so we could celebrate their engagement. It was a complete surprise to Jess (good job Joe) and so special that we all got to be a part of it. Great night.

But an even better one is happening tomorrow. The wedding! yay!! The festivities are kicking off today with nails, lunch, rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Boy am I excited! (And hopefully we avoid any Matt Clute rehearsal dinner incidents). And I am so happy to be standing up there with Jessica, watching her marry her best friend. They make a fabulous couple and I am so happy for them! And after they say their 'I do's' we are going to party like you wouldn't believe!! It's going to be insane. Definitely going to make some really awesome memories.

Cheers to the happy couple!

Full recap of all the awesomeness next week. Have a good weekend everyone!

GO MARRIAGE!!!

getting involved

Last weekend I went to the monthly Fun Bunch event. We met up at a super fabulous house in Chula Vista, had drinks and snacks and chatted the afternoon away. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoy hanging out with these ladies. It had been a while since I had been to an event (weddings, family, & work got in the way) so it was good to do a little catching up! And while I was there I learned about a few other navy spouse organizations in San Diego.

My friend Brandy is involved in NOSC (Navy Officer's Spouses Club), in fact she is on the board (way more involved than I want to be) and has recommended I go to the Welcome Social and see what it's all about. The only drawback is the annual fee: $27. Now I know that is not a lot of money, and if it goes towards the monthly events I really shouldn't complain, but dang I hate paying to be a part of an organization. Ahh...I will probably go and check it out. I love Brandy and she says there are a lot of cool ladies that go to these events. And my motto is: you can never have enough friends....especially Navy friends. We move a lot and it is always good to know someone in your new location!

Another friend of mine, Dennis, is a part of the SOS (Surface Officers' Spouses Club) here in San Diego. He is also on the board and does a lot with them in his free time. At first I thought this was for Surface Warfare Officers only, but apparently it's for anyone. They do fun monthly events and I was told there is a lot of wine involved. Pretty easy to convince me to join when wine is involved! They also have an annual fee (boo), but again, $20 isn't too bad.

So the question is....how involved should I get? I know that I definitely want to stay away from anything with too much responsibility. I also don't want to be spending all my free time planning events or even attending them. I need a good balance. Attending one or two a month is fine with me, I get to meet some new people and it should leave me with plenty of other free time. Although since Matt is almost back I really have less of a desire to get involved. I know, kinda sad, but when you haven't seen your hubby in 7 months, spending time with a bunch of girls isn't #1 on your list! LOL! Overall though, I think they are both really good organizations. I will probably venture out, check out an event or two and see how I like it. Like I said before: doesn't hurt to make more friends! :)

heartwarming video....

It has been almost 7 months since Matt has been gone. And the question is, will Harley remember him? Occasionally I ask him "where's daddy?" and he looks like he sorta gets it...but the enthusiasm isn't there like it used to be. Makes me a little concerned.

But today my Mom sent me this video and it really gives me the confidence that Harley will remember Daddy. And that he loves him lots and lots. If this dog can remember her Mom after a year, Mr H will DEFINITELY remember Daddy after 7 months.

Such a great video. Tear jerker too. I can't imagine our life without Mr H, he is so special and we love him lots. He brings so much joy and love into our lives. I can't wait to see the happy reunion between Matt and Harley!!

deployment....you're going down.

Is it possible for time to fly by and to crawl at the same time? It sure feels that way to me! The deployment really has flown by. I cannot believe we are in the final few weeks and it is almost over! And at the same time it feels like time has all of a sudden stopped. Maybe its because I am now counting down every day. In the past I was counting down by groups of 10 days or more and mostly trying to ignore the countdown all together. I prefer to be distracted by work or events or anything else I have going on. But lately I just keep torturing myself! It's like I'm counting down the hours (unfortunately I do know how many hours til he gets home. lol), and we all know that just makes things seem so much longer!

So....who wants to see the donut of misery?? It's awfully green....which I LOVE to see! :)

94% done! Insanity I tell you! Holy Moly. We really have kicked this deployments butt and boy I can't wait to celebrate its official end in a few short weeks! And in the meantime I plan to keep myself occupied by cleaning the house, hanging the banner, gathering all the requested food items, loading up on much needed alcohol, and watching my bestie Jessica Absher marry the very special Joe Burgess. (collective awwwwww). One more week Jess! :)

vegas, i love you

This recap is long overdue. I could bore you with lame excuses, but I would rather just talk about all the fun we had in Vegas.....

I headed to Vegas for a very special occasion: Miss Jen Swan's bachelorette party! woo hoo!! And you all know what that means: penis related items everywhere! Penis straws, penis shot glass, blow up penis, and Phil (the giant penis cup). Trust me when I tell you: these make Vegas sooooo much more fun (if that is even possible). After decorating the room and tapping into the alcohol, we got ready and went out for some super yummy Mexican food.

Photobucket

Then we were off to my favorite Vegas show: Thunder from Down Under!! (yes, I admit, it is the only Vegas show I've been to, but it totally rocks!) I wish I had pictures to show you, but they don't allow them during the show and they charge an arm and a leg after the show for pictures with the guys. So....we improvised:

Jen & Colin, the hot Thunder guy. yum!

On Saturday we spent the whole day at the pool. And bonus: none of us got burnt!! Super surprised by that, but we were pretty religious about putting on that sunscreen. We spent the day hanging out with a bachelor party group, letting them buy us beer all day long. It was awesome!
the whole crew!

beer!! :)

We eventually dragged ourselves away from the fun in the sun and got ready for the night. We had dinner at a fabulous Italian place in New York, New York and then bar hopped. We hit up Coyote Ugly, the piano bar, and eventually club Rok. We danced and danced and had a great time. My feet were sore which means I worked it. Or my shoes suck....going with I worked it. :)

After a decent nights rest and some OJ and Vodka for breakfast we headed out for brunch at the MGM buffet! YUM! It was really good. I ate way too much, which made the drive home even harder....food coma. But you can't go to Vegas and not hit up at least one buffet.

Half of the girls departed on Sunday (darn you work for getting in the way!) and half stayed. Based on all the pictures I saw, it seems like they had a pretty good time. While cruising the strip they had quite an adventure. This is one of my favorite pics:

haha totally random...i love it!

This was such a great trip! It went by way too fast! I met some really cool girls and we had a fabulous time celebrating Jen. I am looking forward to seeing them all again very soon: 24 days! It is going to be an unforgettable wedding....dancing the night away and making even more great memories! See all you ladies soon! :)

Owie

Yesterday was a bootcamp day. Let me start off by saying I was not super motivated and a little tired, but since it was the 4:30pm class I decided to just go. I knew I would feel better after. However, if I had known I was going to be brutally attacked during the class I may have reconsidered and maybe gone for a nice relaxing run instead. But bootcamp won....

My bootcamp classes are outdoors at Mission Bay park, right on the water. We do all sorts of crazy things and usually quite a bit of rolling around on the grass. Mid-class the exercise listed was "run up the hill, bear crawl down". Hopefully all of you can picture a bear crawl...but basically you are crawling....like a bear. Helpful, I know. Anywho...half way down the hill the attack happened. As I put my hand down on the grass BAM...I was stabbed.....by a BEE!! How rude!! It's not like I was in his space or something. I quickly pulled the stinger out, and then continued on my bear crawl way down the hill. Burning and pain ensued...but I pushed through. Hey, the class was almost over and I'm no quitter.

That evening I even forgot I had been stung. I cooked dinner, painted my nails, watched some TV. However, when I woke up this morning, I noticed the damage the bee had done:

I can only hope the jerk died after stinging me. I wonder if the fact it's my middle finger means anything? hmmm....and side note: not easy to type with a swollen finger....hence the ice in the background.

The price I pay to be fit.

off to the city of sin

As most of you know, it is full on "wedding season" around here. Everyone I know seems to be getting married this summer....spacing it out would have been nice people! Geez. It's like one party after another. Non-stop food and drinks. I must say, it's quite fun.

And this weekend I will be partying hard core in sin city....Vegas! We are heading to Vegas for Jen's (soon to be sis-in-law) bachelorette party. We are staying at the Monte Carlo hotel right on the strip. We plan to enjoy yummy dinners, drinks in the room, drinks at the pool, drinks on the strip, and drinks while watching half naked men shake their booty's. ahhhh heaven. Needless to say, I am looking forward to it. I have been packing all week long. Actually I have been preparing for this for weeks.....purchasing the much needed room drinks and snacks at Costco, pulling Phil out of the garage and giving him a bath, and trying on all the dresses in my closet to make sure I bring all the appropriate options. I think I pulled out 6 dresses for 2 nights out on the town. Hey, a girl needs options. And, I am willing to share in case anyone needs a sexy dress.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, I know mine will be pure insanity. And yes I plan to share when I return. You know what they say, what happens in Vegas....stays in Vegas ends up on facebook (or my blog). LOL.

wedding weekend #1: fabulous fisher festivities!

I love weddings. Celebrating love, meeting new people, enjoying fabulous food and lots of drinks. And Brent and Kassidy's was a hit! It took place at a gorgeous park right next to a vineyard. After a cloudy morning the sun came out, making it the perfect day. The wedding was very laid back with picnic benches used during the cocktail hour, and white umbrellas for shade. There were yellow accents everywhere, giving it a warm, friendly feeling.  After the beautiful ceremony, sealed with a kiss....

Mr & Mrs. Fisher. awwww

we were off to the bar. Priorities. We had some yummy wine and tried oysters for the first time!

Photobucket
They were slimy, but covered in pesto. We decided the best plan was to just swallow them. They were ok. Nothing exciting. Would I eat them again? Maybe, but only if I didn't have to chew them. Chewing something slimy = yuck. But I am glad to cross this off my bucket list. LOL.

After a yummy dinner and some fabulous speeches from the wedding party and the parents, we were off to the dance floor and the photo booth.
dancing with G-ma on her bday!

the photobooth was wayyyyyy too much fun

It was a fabulous night. We made new friends and drank lots and lots of wine. And yes, there was a small hangover the next day. Well worth it though. We closed the place down and re-lived all the crazy memories the next day. Good times.

Thanks Brent and Kassidy for having such an awesome wedding! You make an amazing couple and your love is an inspiration to all of us. Have a great honeymoon and I can't wait to see you again soon!!
