Aunt Karen's visit!

Two weeks after our return from the east coast, Matt's Aunt came to visit us. She had never been to the Monterey area before, and specifically asked for the full California treatment. Matt, Charlotte, and I were happy to oblige. Aunt Karen arrived late Friday night, and after a LONG day of travel we all enjoyed some wine and good conversation before heading off to bed.

Saturday we had a leisurely and breakfast while looking out over Monterey Bay. Then we all got dressed, packed up the car, and headed for the wineries! We went out to the Santa Lucia Highlands where we could drink the wine amongst the beautiful vineyards. It was awesome! The first place we stopped, Puma, was quite generous with their tasting....10+ tastes for $10. Score!

Then we stopped at Hahn where we enjoyed a single glass of delicious Pinot Noir and our picnic lunch. The view was breathtaking. This picture doesn't do it justice.

Oh, and it was windy. haha

Then we were off to Carmel where we had a delicious dinner at Clint Eastwood's restaurant, Mission Ranch. It was overcast and cool, but we had a great view of some local sheep grazing on a field next to the ocean. I did not get a picture of that, darn it! Then we drove to Carmel Beach where we cozied up to a bonfire on the beach. We even had s'mores for dessert....mmmm.

Jared was recruited to set up the fire for us. Thanks Jared!

On Sunday we met up with Aunt Karen's friends, Kate and Arthur, and enjoyed a delicious lunch at their home. Then we drove out to Big Sur so Aunt Karen could see the big cliffs and beautiful ocean. We even went on a short hike and got to see the sunshine!

And on Monday is was a girls day. Matt went off to school while the rest of us enjoyed Monterey. We started off the day with lunch at one of my favorite spots, Trailside Cafe (yum!). Then we walked along Cannery Row, did a little shopping, and (of course) went to the Aquarium! It had been 6 months since we had last gone and I was excited to see the Sea Otter exhibit. And boy was it a totally different experience with Charlotte. She was so much more aware and curious about all the fish. She had a great time! We all did!

Thanks Aunt Karen for making the LONG trip out to visit us! We had a wonderful time exploring the area with you. Hope you can come and see us again before we move! :)
