GGMA's Bday weekend: SF

At the end of July we took a trip to SF and spent the weekend in the city with Grandma and Rachel to celebrate Grandma's 75th birthday! We stayed at the Donatello hotel, walking distance to Union Square and all the restaurants and shops. We had a great time playing "tourist" all weekend long.

Instead of driving up the 101, we took the scenic route on the 1 through Half Moon Bay, right along the coast.  It was beautiful. Totally worth the drive. We arrived around lunch time, settled in to the hotel and hit up Grandma's favorite bar for lunch, Lefty O'Doul's. Yummy. We spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out and enjoying each other's company.

Later that night Matt, Charlotte, and I walked a few blocks and met up with some of my high school friends. We hadn't seen each other in probably 10 years or more, and since they were both living in the city, it was the perfect opportunity for a get together. And they wanted to snuggle Miss C. We had a wonderful dinner at Farmer Brown. The fried chicken with Mac n Cheese....YUM! And it was so much fun to catch up! Only wished we all lived closer so we could get together more often.

On Saturday we did the double decker bus tour. Besides it being crowded on the buses, it was awesome! We picked it up in Union Square, and hopped off at Haight and Ashbury. Matt had never been and we wanted to grab a bite to eat and do a little shopping.

Our next stop was the golden gate bridge. Neither Matt nor I had ever walked across it before, and it was a really cool experience. Breathtaking. Huge. Magnificent. A Must see.

kinda reminds me of ET :)
That night we had dinner at a delicious Italian restaurant. And right out front was a huge scale. Of course we all hopped on, even Charlotte!

On Sunday GGMA was kind enough to babysit Charlotte for a few hours while Matt and I hit the town. We cruised Union Square and did a little shopping. It was really nice to get a few hours alone and pick up some much needed items.

Then we were off on our next tourist adventure. First up: Coit Tower.

Then we headed over to Pier 39, where we had drinks and dinner at The Fish House. And for dessert, my all time favorite.....MINI DONUTS!! I love donuts, as most of you know, and these little cinnamon sugar beauties are to die for. mmmmm. LOVE.

It was a wonderful weekend! So nice to get away for a mini trip and see a lot more of the city. And I am so happy we got to spend Grandma's birthday weekend with her! Happy 75th GGMA! We love you!!
